“Let us regard the forests as an inheritance, given to us by nature, not to be despoiled or devastated, but to be wisely used, reverently honoured and carefully maintained. Let us regard the forests as a gift, entrusted to any one of us only for transient care, to be surrendered to posterity as an unimpaired property, increased in riches and augmented in blessings, to pass as a sacred patrimony from generation to generation.” – Baron Sir Ferdinand von Mueller (1879)

Slightly the worse for wear with a few scars to show for it and probably in need of a good rest. It’s been an interesting couple of years. Like this lion near the Crocodile River, it is also good to be back focusing on the things that matter. Berg en Dal region, Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Arriving home with food. A nesting pair of eastern osprey (Pandion cristatus*) at Rottnest Island, Western Australia. These birds partner for life and their nests, known as stacks, are some of the largest and most durable natural structures in Australia. Some stacks on Rottnest Island are in excess of 70 years old!

*Some taxonomic determinations list the taxon as a sub-species of Pandion haliaetus
